A vital platform for Mexican cinema in the U.S.
2017 Festival Archive
Our guest of honor at Tucson Cine Mexico 2017 was director María José Cuevas. Her documentary Bellas de noche/Beauties of the Night opened the festival and received a standing ovation from a near capacity crowd. Festival co-directors Vicky Westover and Carlos Gutiérrez were on hand to present María José with the Tucson Cine Mexico Jaguar Award for Most Impressive Film Debut. All of the 2017 festival films were Arizona premieres and all screened at our festival home base, Harkins Tucson Spectrum 18 in South Tucson. Maria José Cuevas also participated in a roundtable discussion at the University of Arizona's Institute for LGBT Studies, and gave a filmmaker talk at the Tucson Museum of Art.
